2017 Revenue Goals for Side Hustle Dad

I don’t really believe in New Years resolutions. No, let me be clearer – I hate them. I believe that they’re a form of hope we’ve manufactured with the guaranteed outcome being failure every single year. Typically failure comes by March, and that’s assuming you were on top of your game! I believe the same when it comes to fitness, you need to make a life change, not a diet – because diets are temporary.

With regards to my Side Hustles, I refuse to state a New Years solution per-se, but I do have goals for the entire year. I realize it sounds like I’m splitting hairs, and maybe I am, but here’s my goals for 2017. You, my readers, will hopefully keep me honest.

Goal #1: Make $1,000/month in supplemental Side Hustle income

I feel like this is a bit of a lofty goal, because new websites take a long time to gather momentum. On the other hand, I’m putting so much time into SideHustleDad and my various side hustles, that I can’t see me not reaching the goal.

The breakdown I’m expecting is basically this:

As you can see, the bulk of my goals I am banking on making from my ebook sales. $750/mo in ebook sales is not an easy task, however, nor is $250/mo in advertising money. If I’m expecting a mediocre $50-150/mo in book income per book, that means I’ll need to conservatively publish 10 books in 2017. That shouldn’t be a problem, as I aim for 75-150 pages per book.

Goal #2: Finish my first iOS app and make $50/mo from it

This is a pretty safe goal. I feel pretty confident I should be able to earn closer to $200/mo from the app, if I do it right – but we’ll see. The app is almost finished, but unfortunately I decided to redesign a large part of it in 2017 before launching. Due to this redesign, my kids learning app “PowerWords,” will not be released until around April. I may consider outsourcing some of the changes, since I’ve written 80% of the app on my own already. It originally began out of necessity, as a way to help my kids learn their words quicker in school. Because of this, I really want to finish it before they don’t need it! Any money made is awesome. I plan on pricing it at $1.99, as there’s currently no app that does specifically what mine does. I’ll discuss how my app came to be in another post.

Goal #3: Provide awesome content

Of course I want to make money with my side hustles – from books, to apps, to anything else, but I truly hope that I deliver awesome content. I don’t want to be a shady individual making money with a poor product. I want people to feel like they’re getting a lot of value for their money. For this reason alone, I plan on dedicating a lot of time to doing things right, instead of fast.
