Being transparent means a lot to me. It means sharing my successes (in detail) with you, and also sharing my failures. In the spirit of this, I’ve decided to post quarterly goals for Side Hustle Dad, as well as my other projects. I’ll also be posting quarterly check-ins to detail my progress toward these goals.
Please note, that I’m posting this already 35% into Q1 – so I’m not going to be too lofty with my goals. Once we get into Q2, I’ll step them up – big time.
Goal #1: Keep Writing Consistently
I’ve been writing and posting blog posts at a frequency of 2-3x a week. I’d like to maintain a minimum of 2x posts per week this quarter. It’s 100% about quality over quantity, but I feel 2-3 posts is easily doable while maintaining the level of quality I shoot for.
Goal #2: Double Down on Social Media
I’ve made a lot of progress on social media, but I want to really step it up. I only started actively working on my social media three weeks ago. I don’t want to shoot for vanity numbers (ie: 1M followers just to say I have 1M followers) – I want to focus on valuable interactions with my audience and other entrepreneurs. With this in mind, my goals for Q1 are:
- Reach 1,500 Twitter Followers (currently at 450)
- Reach 1,750 Pinterest Followers (currently at 518)
I think this is actually pretty ambitious, because although I am heavily engaged in both Twitter and Pinterest, I don’t follow a lot of accounts daily strictly to build my numbers, so a lot of that growth is what I’d refer to as “organic” follower growth. We’ll see if I can pull it off.
Niche Site #1
I haven’t written a lot about my niche site, because it’s an experiment for me, but I do want to continue working on it. I’ve kept it quiet and separate from SHD, because of it’s experimental nature, but in a nutshell, it’s a review website where I review products (yes, I actually buy them!) and provide honest feedback, as well as affiliate links to those products where it makes sense.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t spent the necessary time yet on the site, and it’s only a couple of weeks old, but so far I’m not too thrilled about the results. I’m seeing barely any traffic, but again, I’m not on social media, and I’ve done zero promotion as it’s still a work in progress. That being said, my goals for Niche Site #1 are:
Goal #1: Add 3 new reviews
This sounds easy, but I do purchase the products for the site out of pocket and review them, so it takes a little time. It’s also not my highest priority, so thus the reason for it not being too ambitious of a goal. Just enough to move forward. I wouldn’t expect to see a profit on the Niche site for at least 6 months at this rate.
Goal #2: Begin Building Social Media
I need to open an account (at least on Twitter), and begin gathering followers. I won’t be as active with this account as I am on SHD (@sidehustledad), but it’s a start.
I’ve got a lot more going on than I’m posting in this thread (I’m trying to not bore you, and keep it relevant) – but here’s a couple of things I’m working on outside of SHD and My Niche site that I am trying to move forward on in the coming months:
Goal: Finish 50% of Italian Lessons
I’m obsessed with languages. I latch onto a language and learn it for a while, then move onto another one. I then forget what I learned, and circle back around. It’s a vicious cycle.
For now, I’m learning Italian in preparation for our trip this summer to Venice, and Rome. As a result, my Q1 goal is to get 50% of my audio lessons completed.
That’s it! Like I said, pretty light goals for now – but enough to keep me pushing forward in a meaningful way on all fronts. I am super excited for Q2 and Q3 this year, as I expect to see a lot of momentum carrying into the later part of 2017.
What do you guys think? Am I being too lazy with these goals – should I step it up? Or do you think keeping reasonable (achievable..) goals makes more sense?
